Defining a Credible Interval Is Not Always Possible with “Point-Null” Priors: A Lesser-Known Correlate of the Jeffreys-Lindley Paradox

چکیده

In many common situations, a Bayesian credible interval will be, given the same data, very similar to frequentist confidence interval, and researchers interpret these intervals in fashion. However, no predictable similarity exists when are based on model-averaged posteriors whenever one of two nested models under consideration is so called “point-null”. Not only can this be quite different than some cases it may undefined. This lesser-known correlate Jeffreys-Lindley paradox particular interest popularity Bayes factor for testing point-null hypotheses.
